Pond Spring is located in Hillsboro in Lawrence County in north central Alabama. The site is three miles east of Courtland, Alabama, and about 15 miles west of Decatur on the south side of AL-20 (alternate US-72). Located at 12280 Alabama Highway 20, Hillsboro, Alabama 35643.
What to See and Do: the 50-acre site includes Hickman dogtrot log cabin (circa 1818); Federal style Sherrod House (circa 1830); 1870s Wheeler house; eight farm-related outbuildings, including a log ice house, log barn, and cook’s house; two family cemeteries; African American cemetery; small Indian mound; spring-fed pond; boxwood garden
Guided House Tours are offered Wednesday-Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-Noon and 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Self-guided Tours of the grounds are also available during hours of operation

The Pond Spring Gift Shop is located in the Sherrod house and open at the end of each tour. The gift shop carries books, unique souvenirs, and decorative items. We have plenty of picnic tables for your family or group to use. Come make a day of it!
The dogtrot log cabin and main home are accessible. The grounds are generally accessible but there are areas of rough terrain. If you have questions about site accessibility or if you anticipate needing special assistance, please contact us at 256-637-8513.
